Player Spotlight- Alexis Sklarin

I have been President of the University of Miami Women’s Club Soccer team for a year now, I wanted to reflect on all that I have learned and accomplished in my term.
Taking on this role as only a sophomore was daunting. It was my responsibility to run and organize a tryout of over 85 girls, weekly practices, games, and tournaments nationwide. I had to quickly learn new rules, systems, and regulations to ensure the club would remain solvent and organized. Taking on this role has been challenging, yet fulfilling and transformative, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
A successful season and tournaments can only begin to scratch the surface of what has been accomplished these past couple of semesters. We have also remained in the top tier of club sports, being granted the highest allocation of funding from the budget pool. To remain in this tier I am constantly organizing and delegating different fundraising activities, community service participation, hosting events, and having an active network presence. I have learned that to run a cohesive team there are plenty of things in the background that need to be done correctly to see the results you wish for on the field.
Along with hands-on experience from running weekly practices and coaching games, presidential status comes with various leadership trainings from the University. From the Student Organization Leadership Summit, Officer Training, Leadership seminars, and President’s meetings, I am fortunate enough to have expanded my leadership traits. Specifically, expanding on skills such as effective communication, adaptability and resilience, conflict resolution, and decision-making.
This experience has been invaluable. I am so thankful to be involved in a sport I have always been passionate about, and can’t wait to see all we accomplish next.
